Car hits, kills 78-year-old woman on mobility scooter in Phoenix

She was crossing the street against the traffic signal near 21st and Northern avenues when the collision occurred Monday afternoon, according to the Phoenix Police Department.

A 78-year-old woman riding a mobility scooter died after being struck by a vehicle in Phoenix on Monday afternoon, authorities said.

Adela Franco De Aiello was riding in the crosswalk but crossing against the traffic signal near 21st and Northern avenues when a vehicle struck her, according to the Phoenix Police Department.

The driver of the vehicle that struck her remained at the scene and cooperated with officers. Police believe the driver was not impaired.

Franco De Aiello was taken to a hospital, where she died of her injuries.

The case is being investigated by detectives with the Phoenix Police Department’s Vehicular Crimes Unit.
