Portion of Loop 202 Santan Freeway closed after deadly crash in Chandler

A portion of the Loop 202 Santan Freeway is closed after a deadly collision in Chandler on Monday morning, authorities said.

Westbound Loop 202 is closed at Cooper Road for the investigation and cleanup, according to the Arizona Department of Transportation.

The Arizona Department of Public Safety said three vehicles were involved in the crash, which occurred about 6:50 a.m.

A pickup truck rear‑ended an SUV and hit another vehicle before rolling onto its roof, DPS said.

Two people were taken to a hospital, where one of them was pronounced dead. The other patient’s injures are not considered life-threatening, DPS said.

ADOT is advising motorists to expect delays or seek alternative routes.

There was no estimate for how long the closure would last.

The eastbound lanes were not affected.
