Authorities investigating possible new ransom note in Nancy Guthrie case

The Pima County Sheriff’s Department is working with the FBI to investigate “a new possible ransom note” connected to the Nancy Guthrie case.

PCSD said Monday the agencies were recently made aware of the note as well as social media comments related to it.

They are reviewing the information to determine whether the note is credible.

In July, the department released two ransom notes that were sent to KOLD News days after the 84-year-old went missing in hopes someone would recognize the writing style.

The first, sent Feb. 2, said Guthrie was safe but scared and asked for $4 million in cryptocurrency, stating the amount would increase if the first demand was not met and threatening to kill Guthrie if the ransom wasn’t paid.

The second, sent Feb. 6, stated Guthrie had died shortly after she was taken and was “buried in nature now.”

Guthrie, the mother of NBC “Today” show co-host Savannah Guthrie, was reported missing Feb. 1 after she failed to appear at a friend’s home in Tucson. Investigators believe she was taken from her Catalina Foothills residence against her will in the early morning hours.

The Guthrie family is offering a $1 million reward for information on the case. The FBI has asked anyone with information to call 1-800-CALL-FBI.
