Woman allegedly shoots, kills mother near campground in Prescott

A woman allegedly shot and killed her mother near a campground in Prescott on Sunday afternoon, authorities said.

Yavapai County Sheriff’s Office (YCSO) deputies were called to an area near White Spar Trailhead around 1 p.m. for reports of a “woman saying she had shot her mother,” according to the YCSO.

Deputies arrived to find a woman with a gunshot wound and began life-saving measures immediately, but she did not survive.

The woman who allegedly fired the weapon was arrested. She was in her late 20s, authorities said.

The investigation is ongoing and in its preliminary stages. No other information was initially provided.
