These goldfish aren’t for eating.

A University of Arizona fraternity was suspended after allegedly forcing new members to consume live goldfish and drink large amounts of alcohol.

The Tucson university sent Sigma Tau Gamma’s president a letter dated Sept. 2 informing him that the fraternity would be placed on an activities suspension, which prevents the house from hosting or participating in any official Greek life activities.

“It has been determined that your organization presents a substantial risk to members of the university community,” the letter says.

The allegations refer to the fall 2025 semester. According to the university’s letter, the fraternity violated six code of conduct rules put in place by the Arizona Board of Regents.

The violations include endangering members of the university, violating campus alcohol distribution and consumption rules, engaging in hazing, and breaking state or federal laws.

New members allegedly were yelled at, degraded and threatened by other fraternity members, too.

The fraternity leaders were instructed to schedule a meeting with the dean of students’ office to discuss consequences.

According to the letter, fraternity members were also banned from communicating with any of the alleged victims during the investigation.

The university encourages students to report hazing incidents as part of its Hazing Prevention Coalition.
