Woman hospitalized, 2 in custody after shooting near Bass Pro Shops in Mesa

An adult woman was taken to a hospital after a shooting near Bass Pro Shops in Mesa on Thursday afternoon, police said.

Officers responded about 1:20 p.m. to the Bass Pro Shop parking lot.

The extent of the woman’s injuries was not immediately known.

A male and a female were in custody in connection with the shooting, police said during a news conference. They were found nearby, but police said they were still determining whether they had tried to flee.

Police did not announce charges or provide additional details about the two people in custody.

Police say Mesa shooting was an isolated incident

The shooting appeared to be an isolated incident, and officers had contacted everyone involved, police said.

During the news conference, police urged people buying or selling firearms to use a federally licensed firearms dealer, either directly or as an intermediary, and to choose a safe location for transactions.
