2 dead after boat hits peninsula, flips at Lake Havasu

Two people died after a boat crashed at Lake Havasu on Saturday evening, authorities said.

Deputies were called to Cattail Cove State Park just before 7:10 p.m. and found a 2019 36′ Douglas Marine boat upside down on land.

The Mohave County Sheriff’s Office identified the deceased as 65-year-old Charles Romer and 59-year-old Jennifer Luzzi of Lake Havasu City.

Authorities found Romer and Luzzi unresponsive near the boat and immediately began life-saving measures. However, both were later pronounced dead at the scene.

Preliminary information indicated the boat was traveling at a high rate of speed when it hit a large peninsula and launched into the air before landing in a boat-in campsite.
