Arizona man who mailed fentanyl, meth sentenced to 5 years in federal prison

An Arizona man was sentenced to five years in prison last week after mailing fentanyl and methamphetamine, officials announced.

Hugo Jesus Munoz, 34, of Rio Rico, pleaded guilty to conspiracy to distribute methamphetamine and fentanyl and conspiracy to launder monetary instruments, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Arizona.

Munoz’s time in prison will be followed by five years of supervised release.

He used the U.S. Postal Service to distribute 4 kilograms of fentanyl and 3.5 kilograms of methamphetamine, prosecutors said.

Munoz also deposited $105,000 he made from customers he distributed the drugs to into his personal and business bank accounts.

The prosecution of Munoz’s case was part of the Homeland Security Task Force’s Protecting the American People Against Invasion initiative, which is devoted to getting rid of criminal cartels, foreign gangs, transnational criminal organizations and human smuggling and trafficking rings.
