Only 1 Arizona candidate is on GOP midterm convention speaker list

Jay Feely is the only Arizona candidate or official scheduled to appear at this week’s historic Republican midterm convention in Dallas.

The very first GOP midterm convention will be held Wednesday and Thursday at American Airlines Center with more than 100 speakers pitching the party’s agenda to voters, including President Donald Trump, Vice President JD Vance, Cabinet members, elected officials, party officials and candidates.

Trump will deliver a keynote address on the first night and closing remarks on the second night. Vance will give the Thursday keynote address.

Feely will be one of many candidates in key congressional races to speak at the GOP midterm convention, although the day and time of his spot were not released.

The former NFL kicker is the Republican nominee in Arizona’s 1st Congressional District and will face Democratic nominee Amish Shah in the Nov. 3 general election.

The seat is up for grabs after longtime U.S. Rep. David Schweikert chose to run for governor rather than seek reelection. Schweikert was trounced by fellow U.S. Rep. Andy Biggs in the GOP primary.

Another candidate in an Arizona swing district is skipping the convention to focus on a scheduled debate.

U.S. Rep. Juan Ciscomani told ABC News he will miss the convention because his Arizona Citizens Clean Elections Commission debate against Democratic challenger JoAnna Mendoza is set for Thursday night.
