A man was killed and his teenage daughter was injured in a shooting in Buckeye early Thursday, authorities said.

The suspect, 22-year-old Jesus Lastra Perez, was detained soon after officers responded to the scene on 214th Lane near Sienna Hills Parkway and McDowell Road in the Sienna Hills neighborhood, according to the Buckeye Police Department.

Police said Perez was booked into jail on a homicide charge for the death of 36-year-old David Washington.

Is the Buckeye shooting suspect related to the victims?

Perez is the son of Washington’s ex-wife and lived at the home with the victims, police said.

A uniformed police sergeant who had just ended her shift and was driving a patrol car was down the street when the shooting call came in just after 1 a.m. She responded to the home and detained Perez within minutes.

More officers arrived and found a 17-year-old girl with gunshot wounds that required hospitalization but are not considered life-threatening.

Washington, the girl’s father, was then found dead of gunshot wounds inside the home.
