Man shot, killed by security guard after allegedly pulling out gun at business in north Phoenix

The Phoenix Police Department released the security guard after he was detained and interviewed.

A 44-year-old man is dead after being shot by a security guard at a business in north Phoenix on Tuesday, authorities said.

Officers were called to a business near Peoria Avenue and Interstate 17 around 12:30 p.m. for multiple calls about a shooting, according to the Phoenix Police Department.

When police arrived at the scene, they found a man suffering from a gunshot. He was taken to a nearby hospital, where was pronounced dead.

Officers secured the area and detained a contracted, uniformed security guard, who was identified as the suspected shooter.

Detectives determined that the man pulled out a gun while interacting with the security guard, who responded by shooting the man.

The security guard was released after being interviewed.

The investigation into the fatal north Phoenix shooting is ongoing.
