Glendale firefighters deliver endangered birthday cakes after grocery store blaze

Glendale firefighters ensured that peoples’ special days weren’t ruined by delivering their birthday cakes after an exterior fire at a local grocery store recently.

Due to the blaze, the store’s utilities had to be secured, causing the refrigerated cases holding multiple birthday cakes that were supposed to be picked up that day to be shut off.

To prevent the incident from ruining community members’ celebrations, the crew of Engine/Hazmat 157 stepped in and bought the cakes.

Captain Jocelyn Galligan, Engineer Kyle Port, Firefighter Tim Webb and Captain Connor Healy then ensured that they were delivered to the guests of honor.

“Their thoughtful act ensured that an unexpected emergency didn’t spoil these special celebrations,” the Glendale Fire Department wrote in a social media post. “We’re proud of our firefighters for serving the community both on and beyond the emergency scene.”
