Valley rain continues throughout weekend, expected to pick up into the week

After morning showers in the East Valley and to the northeast on Saturday, weather officials expect cooler temperatures and continued rain chances throughout the weekend.

Parts of the Cave Creek area received nearly 1 inch of rain early Saturday, while parts of the East Valley received about one-tenth inch.

The National Weather Service said isolated showers and storms could continue throughout the day, with the forecasted high temperature of 97 degrees below normal, but up from Friday’s high of 93 degrees.

Storms are anticipated “mainly over the higher terrain of south-central Arizona,” NWS said. It gave a 30-50% chance of rain over the foothills of Maricopa County and south Gila County.

East of the Valley, a flash flood warning was in effect until 12:30 p.m. across Superior to Globe.

The surge of storms is part of a larger system that has dumped nearly 3 inches of rain to parts of the Camp Creek, Desert Ridge and Apache Junction areas this week.

It will continue through Tuesday and Wednesday, which is when NWS has targeted as the best chances for more storms.
