DUI suspect was driving with baby in car during fatal collision with pedestrian in Phoenix

A woman suspected of DUI was driving with her baby in the car when she allegedly struck and killed a pedestrian in Phoenix early Tuesday, authorities said.

Officers responded to a car-pedestrian collision near 55th Avenue and McDowell Road around 2:20 a.m., according to the Phoenix Police Department.

They found 36-year-old Jose Reinaldo Cabrera lying near the roadway. He was pronounced dead at the scene by Phoenix Fire Department responders.

The driver, 27-year-old Camry Bridges, remained at the scene and showed signs of impairment, police said.

“It was determined that Jose was crossing McDowell Road, not in a crosswalk, and was fatally struck by a silver Toyota Camry driven by Bridges,” Lt. Vince Lewis said in a media advisory.

Bridges was processed and booked on one count of aggravated DUI before being released on her own recognizance. The aggravating factor was that her 7-month-old child was in the car.

The child was not hurt and was released to family while her mother was in custody.
