Arizona man who burned victim’s body after fatal stabbing sentenced to 20 years

An Arizona man who stabbed a victim to death and then burned the body has been sentenced to 20 years in prison, authorities said Monday.

Thurman Yazzie pleaded guilty to the March 2023 stabbing on the Navajo Nation. The victim was stabbed several times in the back before being driven to the woods and lit on fire, according to court records.

In addition to Yazzie’s 20-year sentencing, the convicted killer will have an additional five years of supervised release.

FBI Phoenix Division’s Gallup Office worked with the Navajo Department of Criminal Investigations and the McKinley County Sheriff’s Office in New Mexico to conduct the investigation.
