A man died after getting stabbed and shot in Peoria’s Vistancia community Monday morning, and the suspect later took his own life, authorities said.
The suspect left the scene near Sunrise Point and Ridgeline Road, east of Vistancia Boulevard, before officers arrived about 5:30 a.m., according to the Peoria Police Department.
The victim, 31-year-old Jackson Berry, was found outside his home with multiple gunshot and stab wounds. He died after being taken to a hospital.
The police department used its Real Time Crime Center to track the unnamed suspect to the Payson area.
Payson Police Department officers located the suspect and tried to pull him over, but he drove away and crashed after a short pursuit. While officers chased him on foot, he shot himself, police said. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Investigators learned the two men were involved in a verbal altercation before the initial deadly incident. It wasn’t immediately clear how the men knew each other.
Residents were told to expect a significant police presence while the area was under investigation.
