Arizona deputies arrest 2, seek another suspect after theft of 2,100 gallons of diesel fuel

Two Nevada men were arrested in connection with an Arizona fuel theft ring, and a third suspect is at large, authorities announced Wednesday.

The Yavapai County Sheriff’s Office launched an investigation after two gas stations in Seligman reported that large quantities of diesel fuel were stolen from their pumps early Friday.

Seligman is a small community along Route 66 between Flagstaff and Kingman.

A deputy spotted a U-Haul truck matching the description of a vehicle suspected in the thefts. The deputy noticed diesel fuel leaking from the truck’s cargo area and found footprints leading from the spill to a nearby hotel room.

The sheriff’s office Criminal Investigations Bureau and the Arizona Department of Public Safety joined the probe and helped arrest two men inside the room.

Authorities found evidence connected to the fuel theft — including tools, a credit card skimmer and the keys to the U-Haul — in the room.

They also searched the truck and found seven fuel tanks that were holding about 2,100 gallons of diesel, the amount reported stolen from the gas stations.

Search continues for third fuel theft suspect

The men in the hotel room — 37-year-old Dachel Roberto Michel Campos and 23-year-old Jesus Daniel Rodriguez Yordy, both of Las Vegas — were booked into jail on burglary and theft charges.

The sheriff’s office said it is looking for a third, unidentified suspect who fled in a black Ford F-650 flatbed truck before deputies arrived.
