Phoenix receives $300K to build well in northern part of city

PHOENIX — The city of Phoenix has received a $300,000 grant to build a new well in the northern part of the city.

“We want to, of course, make sure that our supplies are always reliable and that they’re reliable and that they’re resilient in times of surface water shortage and drought,” Kathryn Sorensen, water services director for the city of Phoenix, said Tuesday.

The new well will be built at the Deer Valley Water Treatment Plant near Dunlap and 35th avenues. It is being funded by a federal grant from the Bureau of Reclamation.

“What this means to us, in the midst of drought that’s really covering the entire West Coast, is additional resiliency for our customers,” Sorensen said.

The well is expected to be in operation sometime in 2017.
