Arizona man sentenced to over 15 years for sexually abusing 2 girls

PHOENIX — An Arizona man has been sentenced to over 15 years in prison for sexually abusing two young girls, authorities said.

The abuse 30-year-old Avery Cody Billy inflicted took place on the Navajo Nation, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Arizona.

Last week, a judge sentenced him to a total of 188 months in prison, followed by 180 months of supervised release.

Billy started abusing the girls when they were in first grade, and he continued the abuse repeatedly over many years, prosecutors said.

U.S. Attorney Timothy Courchaine called Billy a predator who caused harm to the girls.

“Avery Cody Billy degraded, hurt and betrayed the trust of two little girls,” Courchaine said in an announcement.

He thanked the victim specialists, FBI agents, tribal partners and assistant U.S. attorneys who helped secure Billy’s prison sentence.

“Their commitment also ensures that survivors of abuse receive the critical support and resources they need to heal,” Courchaine said.

Billy is from Tuba City, an unincorporated town on the Navajo Nation. The town, which is about 80 miles north of Flagstaff, is one of the largest communities in Coconino County.
