Pima County Sheriff’s Department recovers several pieces of evidence in Nancy Guthrie case

PHOENIX — Authorities confirmed Thursday that gloves are among the new evidence collected as part of the investigation into the disappearance of Nancy Guthrie in Tucson.

The Pima County Sheriff’s Department (PCSD) also mentioned “several items,” although it did not specify what they were. As part of standard procedure, the evidence will be submitted for analysis.

The department said there will be a higher presence of law enforcement activity going forward as it continues investigating leads.

It also confirmed news reports saying that people with doorbell cameras in the area were receiving requests for Ring doorbell footage between Jan. 11 and Feb. 2.

However, the department’s announcement expanded upon that, saying it wants all video footage that includes vehicles, vehicle traffic, people/pedestrians and “anything neighbors deem out of the ordinary or important to our investigation” from Jan. 1 to Feb. 2.

It also gave a heads-up about an alert it sent via the Neighbors App to users within a 2-mile radius of Guthrie’s residence near East Skyline Drive and North Campbell Avenue in Tucson’s Catalina Foothills neighborhood.

In addition to an increased law enforcement presence, there has also been a buzz of media activity in the area.

Much of this new energy revved up after the FBI and PCSD shared photos and video of a masked person outside Guthrie’s home around the time she went missing.

New bouquets of yellow flowers appeared at a memorial outside Guthrie’s home. There was also something new on Thursday: yellow bows tied around a neighbor’s tree. Locals told KTAR News 92.3 FM that the bows indicated solidarity with the Guthrie family.

People in the area also said the HOA asked neighbors to drop off yellow flowers, solidifying the color as the theme of those who want to show their support for the family during this time.

Where is the investigation into Nancy Guthrie now?

Guthrie was last seen on Jan. 31, when she was dropped off at her home in Tucson’s Catalina Foothills. Investigators believe she was taken against her will sometime between 9:45 p.m. that night and late the next morning.

Investigators returned multiple times over the weekend to Guthrie’s home, according to The Associated Press. At one point, a law enforcement official was seen using a pole to search an underground tank behind the property.

The FBI has been seeking the public’s help, displaying digital billboards across major cities in Arizona, California, Texas and New Mexico, offering a $50,000 reward for information.

Both PCSD and the FBI said they are treating the letters seriously.

Over the weekend, Savannah Guthrie said her family is prepared to pay for her mother’s safe return, pleading in a video for those responsible to release her so the family can be reunited.
