WM Phoenix Open DUI task force pulled over fewer drivers than last year

PHOENIX — During the three-day WM Phoenix Open over the weekend, authorities conducted a total of 1,091 traffic stops.

“This was all people in vehicles that were on not only the State Routes 101 and 202, but also in the surrounding areas, along with the West Valley,” Jesse Torrez, the director of the Governor’s Office of Highway Safety, told KTAR News 92.3 FM on Monday.

This was slightly less than last year, he added.

The numbers from the recently released task force report also found that there were 16 drug recognition expert (DRE) evaluations. They’re similar to sobriety tests, but for people who officers believe may be under the influence of drugs, Torrez said.

In addition, there were 66 sober designated drivers contacted.

How many people were arrested for DUI during 2026 WM Phoenix Open?

The total number of DUI arrests was 109, including both aggravated and misdemeanor DUIs. Of those, there were 13 aggravated DUI cases and 96 misdemeanor DUIs, along with 23 extreme DUI cases.

An extreme DUI applies when a driver’s blood alcohol content (BAC) is higher than 0.15%.

Authorities also issued 21 distracted driving citations and made 35 DUI drug arrests.

The average known BAC among the arrests was 0.150.

“It is a high number. It’s twice the legal number, of course,” Torrez said. “We typically see those on these holiday task forces because people, of course, overindulge.”

There was one silver lining: there were zero seat belt citations and only one child restraint citation.

However, four liquor law citations were issued to underage drinkers. The year before, there were zero, according to Torrez.

Separate from the traffic and alcohol-related citations, a “looksmaxxing” streamer known as Clavicular was arrested over the weekend after allegedly entering a Scottsdale nightclub with a fake ID and drugs.

Although he is 20, he was seen entering Casa Amigos near Scottsdale and Camelback Roads in Old Town Saturday night.

The streamer with nearly 750,000 TikTok followers was booked into jail on counts of possession of a forged instrument, using a fake ID to enter a liquor establishment and possession of dangerous drugs.
