Department of Homeland Security purchased large warehouse in West Valley, reports say

PHOENIX — The Department of Homeland Security reportedly purchased a large warehouse in the West Valley last week.

According to azcentral.com, Maricopa County property records show DHS bought a 418,400-square-foot warehouse off of Sweetwater Avenue and Dysart Road for more than $70 million in cash on Jan. 23.

Rockefeller Group was the seller and U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) was also named in the sale.

It was noted that on Jan. 20  a “For Sale or Lease” sign was on the exterior of the warehouse but disappeared three days later.

Has DHS said anything regarding the West Valley warehouse?

When asked about the purchase, an ICE spokesperson provided the following response:

We have no new detention centers to announce at this time. These will not be warehouses — they will be very well-structured detention facilities meeting our regular detention standards. Every day, DHS is conducting law enforcement activities across the country to keep Americans safe. It should not come as news that ICE will be making arrests in states across the U.S. and is actively working to expand detention space.

ICE is targeting dangerous criminal illegal alien murderers, rapists, pedophiles, gang members and more. 70% of ICE arrests are of illegal aliens charged or convicted of a crime in the U.S. Thanks to the One Big Beautiful Bill, ICE has new funding to expand detention space to keep these criminals off American streets before they are removed for good from our communities.

In December, The Washington Post reported that ICE was trying to speed up deportations by creating a “deliberate feeder system” where new detainees would be booked into processing sites before being moved to one of several warehouses to be staged for deportation. Each warehouse can hold 5,000 to 10,000 people.

One of the warehouses was expected to be located in Arizona.

According to the Phoenix Business Journal, the city of Surprise’s online permit records show a construction permit was issued for “tenant improvements” at the facility on Dec. 22.
