St. Mary’s Food Bank accepting citrus donations through April

PHOENIX — Got any extra citrus fruits? St. Mary’s Food Bank is accepting donations of grapefruits, oranges, tangerines and lemons through April.

The nonprofit will collect citrus Monday-Friday at its Phoenix location (2831 N. 31^st Ave.) from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. and at its Surprise donation center (13050 W. Elm St.) from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Donation bins are clearly marked for citrus and are outside the respective locations. Employees or volunteers will also help you offload your citrus donations from cars, trucks and trailers.

St. Mary’s will also host Super Citrus Saturday on the first two Saturdays of February at Desert Garden United Church of Christ (18818 N. 128th Ave., Sun City West) from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., and the first three Saturdays of February at Shepherd of the Hills United Church of Christ (5524 E. Lafayette Blvd., Phoenix) from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. There will be big St. Mary’s trucks at each location for the donations.

With the rain and mild temperatures this winter, it’s been a great growing season for citrus trees.
