Residents from several Valley cities come together for 19th annual Regional Unity Walk in Tempe

PHOENIX — Several metro Phoenix cities are teaming up on Saturday for the 19th annual Regional Unity Walk, which brings residents together for a festival and a 1-mile walk.

The event begins and ends at Tempe Beach Park northwest of Mill Avenue and Rio Salado Parkway, beginning with a 4:30 p.m. festival and ending with a candlelit walk from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m.

The purpose of the yearly event is for residents from Chandler, Gilbert, Guadalupe, Mesa, Phoenix and Tempe to demonstrate unity, respect and understanding by gathering together. There will be refreshments and entertainment, as well as free T-shirts while supplies last.

How will Unity Walk affect Tempe traffic?

Drivers will also be impacted by the 2026 Unity Walk due to a single scheduled road closure.

Southbound Mill Avenue will be closed between Curry Road and Rio Salado Parkway from 6 p.m. to about 7 p.m. City officials say this is the only planned closure so far, but additional streets may be shut down if needed for public safety during the event.

Bus service in downtown Tempe may also be delayed due to increased traffic. No specific routes have been identified yet, but officials note that bus routes could be affected as the event unfolds.
