AZ Political Podcast: Mark Brnovich remembered for sense of humor, love of Grateful Dead
As a tribute to the late Mark Brnovich, host Jim Sharpe is featuring their 2024 conversation on the AZ Political Podcast.
I was very sad to hear of the passing of former Arizona Attorney General Mark Brnovich, a man I always enjoyed interacting with. As a tribute, we are featuring my conversation with him on the AZ Political Podcast back in July 2024.
When I sat down with Brnovich, the main topic was Donald Trump’s classified documents case — which had just been dismissed.
But we also talked about Brnovich’s place in the Republican Party after so many of his fellow party members attacked him for not finding any evidence of large-scale election fraud in Arizona’s 2020 presidential election.
We also talked about what he saw as the future of the Republican Party (during that presidential election year).
And (in my opinion, most importantly) we hit on that which made Mark Brnovich so endearing: his love of the Grateful Dead. It was a sign to me, along with his great sense of humor, that no matter where he served — as command staff judge advocate in the Army National Guard, as an assistant U.S. attorney for the District of Arizona, as a prosecutor in the Maricopa County Attorney’s Office or as Arizona’s top law enforcement officer (as AG) — Mark took his job seriously, but he never took himself too seriously.
