Dozens evacuated as crews extinguish fire at Phoenix care home

PHOENIX – Dozens of people were evacuated from a Phoenix care home after a fire broke out on Tuesday morning, authorities said.

Crews were dispatched to a structure fire at Suncrest Health Care near 24th Street and Southern Avenue around 5:30 a.m., according to the Phoenix Fire Department.

Upon arrival, they encountered light smoke coming from inside the single-story structure.

The flames were located in one unit and extinguished before they could extend to other parts of the facility.

About 40 people evacuated from care home

Firefighters worked with care home staff to safely evacuate about 40 people.

No civilian or firefighter injuries were reported.

Investigators are working to determine the cause of the fire.

No other details were immediately available.

The care home fire broke out about 10 hours after two people died Monday night in a blaze at a Peoria senior living apartment complex.
