Glendale police shoot allegedly armed suspect during investigation in Phoenix

PHOENIX — Glendale police officers shot a suspect who was allegedly armed Tuesday morning during an investigation in west Phoenix, authorities said.

The incident happened around 10 a.m. near 29th Avenue and McDowell Road, according to the Glendale Police Department.

The department said that the officers were conducting surveillance at a home in that area as part of an aggravated assault investigation.

When the officers made contact with the suspect, identified only as a man in his 40s, he ran and the officers pursued him on foot.

At one point, the man allegedly pointed a firearm at the officers, which led to the officers shooting at him.

The suspect was shot and taken to a nearby hospital with life-threatening injuries, police added.

No bystanders or officers were hurt.

The Phoenix Police Department is investigating the shooting.

Additionally, Phoenix police told ABC15 that McDowell Road was closed between 28th and 31st avenues due to the investigation.
