Powerball ticket from Phoenix liquor store wins $100,000 as jackpot nears $1 billion

PHOENIX – As the Powerball jackpot moved closer to $1 billion, a ticket purchased at a south Phoenix liquor store hit for a $100,000 prize.

The six-figure entry for Monday’s drawing was sold at the Paradise Liquor Mini Mart at 722 W. Southern Ave.

It matched four of the five white numbers — 8, 32, 52, 56 and 64 – plus the red Powerball of 23. That combination is good for $50,000, but the player included the Power Play option, which wound up doubling the payout.

How to play Powerball in Arizona

Powerball is a multistate game of chance with drawings every Monday, Wednesday and Saturday night. Entries cost $2 and can be purchased at over 3,000 retailers around Arizona.

The Power Play add-on costs an extra $1. The multiplier amount is randomly selected before each drawing and increases payouts other than the jackpot by two, three, four, five or 10 times.

The jackpot went unclaimed Monday and will rise to an estimated $930 million for Wednesday’s drawing, seventh-largest in the game’s history.

The odds of winning the top prize are 1 in over 292 million.
