Work truck crashes into utility poles in Phoenix, temporarily knocking out power

PHOENIX — A work truck crashed into utility poles in west Phoenix on Tuesday, temporarily knocking out power and prompting evacuations, according to authorities.

The crash, which involved a Salt River Project (SRP) truck, happened near 36th and Butler drives, according to the Phoenix Fire Department.

The truck crashed into nine utility poles, knocking out power and affecting the function of the traffic light at 35th Avenue and Butler Drive, SRP said.

The incident initially knocked out power to more than 2,100 electricity customers, but that number was down to just 34 customers before 1 p.m., according to the SRP outage map.

The power was fully restored later in the day.

The Phoenix Fire Department Captain Scott Douglas said the area was temporarily evacuated “for precautionary measures.”

No injuries were reported.
