Man dies at hospital following shooting outside west Phoenix hotel

A man died at the hospital after a shooting outside of a west Phoenix hotel on Saturday morning, authorities said.

PHOENIX — A man died at the hospital after a shooting in west Phoenix on Saturday morning, authorities said.

According to the Phoenix Police Department, officers responded to a reported shooting in the parking lot of a hotel in the area of 48th Avenue and McDowell Road around 5:39 a.m.

When police arrived on scene, they reportedly found 48-year-old Delvecchio Smith suffering from at least one gunshot wound.

Police said Smith was taken to a nearby hospital in critical condition. Smith was later pronounced dead.  

Detectives are still investigating what led up to the shooting.
