PHOENIX — Authorities canceled a SAFE Alert on Saturday afternoon after a missing 23-year-old Mesa man was found safe.
The Arizona Department of Public Safety originally issued the SAFE Alert for Antonio Ayala around 11:30 p.m. on Friday and it was canceled around 1:30 p.m. on Saturday.
When the alert was issued, Ayala was last seen near Main Street and Power Road around 4:30 p.m.
However, Ayala was found safe and reunited with his family, according to the Mesa Police Department.
DPS said Ayala suffers from a medical condition that can cause him to become easily lost or confused.
SAFE Alerts have replaced Silver Alerts in Arizona as a way to spread the word about missing persons who are 65 and older or who suffer from dementia or developmental/cognitive disabilities.
