Demonstrations take place around the Valley, nationwide for ‘No Kings’ protests

PHOENIX — Arizonans protesting the country’s trajectory under President Donald Trump gathered throughout Saturday around the Valley as part of “No Kings” demonstrations.

A Tempe “No Kings” march started in Cole Park at 8 a.m. and Tempe Rising Indivisible — the event organizer — told KTAR News 92.3 FM that more than 5,000 people showed up.

"No Kings" protests are planned for several locations across the Valley today.

Demonstrations were also planned at the following locations:

• The Arizona State Capitol
• Glendale, at the intersection of 51st Avenue and Bell Road
• Queen Creek, at the intersection of Gantzel and Combs roads
• Maricopa, at the corner of State Route 347 and Smith Enke Road
• Mesa, at the corner of Baseline Road and Val Vista Drive
• Fountain Hills
• Flagstaff City Hall

“The president thinks his rule is absolute,”  the organization wrote on an event listing for Saturday’s demonstration at the state capitol in Phoenix. “But in America, we don’t have kings, and we won’t back down against chaos, corruption and cruelty.”

Nancy and Dan Moellering said the purpose behind Saturday’s “No Kings” protests is to highlight the opposition to President Donald Trump’s actions and show that a majority of Americans are not happy with the way Trump has been running the United States government.

“No Kings” protests took over parts of the Valley in June to oppose Trump and his expensive military parade in Washington D.C. to honor the Army’s 250th anniversary, which also coincided with his birthday.

A protester named Dani said she showed up to the “No Kings” protests to fight for her democracy.
