1 dead, 1 in critical condition after late-night shooting in west Phoenix

One man was killed and another was seriously injured in a late-night shooting in west Phoenix over the weekend.

PHOENIX – One man was killed and another was seriously injured in a late-night shooting in west Phoenix over the weekend, authorities said.

Officers found the gunshot victims after responding to a shooting in the area of Indian School Road and 71st Avenue around 11:40 p.m. Saturday, according to the Phoenix Police Department.

Both men were taken to a hospital, where 29-year-old Asvaldo Sanchez died of his injuries. The surviving victim was listed in critical condition, police said.

“Detectives responded to the scene and took over the investigation. No suspects have been identified at this time,” Sgt. Brian Bower said in a media advisory Tuesday.

Anybody with information about the late-night shooting is asked to call Silent Witness at 480-WITNESS (948-6377) or 480-TESTIGO (837-8446) for Spanish. Callers can remain anonymous, and tips that lead to an arrest could be eligible for a cash reward.
