Phoenix man charged after allegedly being found with over 30 pounds of methamphetamine

PHOENIX — A Phoenix man has been charged after he was allegedly found with 30 pounds of methamphetamine during a traffic stop, authorities announced Monday.

John Avendano, 21, was charged with possession with the intent to distribute methamphetamine last week, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office District of Arizona.

If he is convicted, Avendano faces a sentence of 10 years to life in prison and a fine of up to $10,000,000.

Details of seizure of over 30 pounds of methamphetamine

According to prosecutors, last Monday, an officer from the Drug Enforcement Administration’s East Valley Drug Enforcement Task Force pulled a Chevrolet Silverado over that was being driven by Avendano.

Inside the truck, investigators found a black trash bag containing about 30 pounds of methamphetamine and a gun.

A search was later performed on Avendano’s home and investigators found more than 5 pounds of methamphetamine, about 250 grams of cocaine and two more guns, prosecutors said.

This investigation is part of Operation Take Back America, a nationwide Department of Justice initiative that aims to stop illegal immigration, eliminate cartels and protect communities from violent crime.
