Engine trouble forces small plane to make emergency landing near Wickenburg

PHOENIX – A small plane used for training made an emergency landing in northwestern Maricopa County on Thursday morning after experiencing engine trouble, authorities said.

The aircraft had two people aboard when it came down around 6:45 a.m. in a remote area near 355th Avenue and Smokehouse Trail, about 15 miles south of Wickenburg Municipal Airport, according to the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office.

The occupants, a man and a woman, sustained minor injuries, MCSO said.

The two-seat plane was an Alpha Trainer, according to the Federal Aviation Administration, which will investigate the incident. The Pipistrel brand aircraft is designed for flight training.
