Investigation underway after Apache Junction crash leaves 2 dead

PHOENIX — An investigation is underway after a crash in Apache Junction on Saturday morning left two people dead, authorities said.

Police responded to a reported crash near South Goldfield Road and East Old West Highway around 1:30 a.m., according to the Apache Junction Police Department.

Upon arrival, authorities found a vehicle with one man and one juvenile that had left the roadway and collided into a utility pole.

The man was pronounced dead on the scene while the juvenile was taken to a hospital and later died, police said.

Traffic was restricted northbound and southbound on Goldfield Road, north of the US 60 freeway. Police said on Saturday morning that northbound Goldfield Road would be closed for the remainder of the day. 

Police advised drivers to avoid the area and use Mountain View or Tomahawk roads as alternate routes. 

The investigation into the crash remains ongoing. No other information was made available.
