Police investigating after body found on Camelback Mountain

PHOENIX — The Phoenix Police Department is investigating after a body was found on Camelback Mountain on Monday.

Technical rescue crews with the Phoenix Fire Department initially responded to the mountain’s Echo Canyon Trail for a mountain rescue.

However, those rescue efforts pivoted to a body recovery mission after it was learned the person was deceased, according to the fire department.

Officers responded to the area of Tatum and McDonald Road around 2 p.m.

Drones with the Phoenix Fire Department were also issued to the area.

Police didn’t share details about the cause of death or identity of the body found because it is a “very active” investigation.
