Gilbert welcomes change of seasons with Harvest in the Heritage District events

PHOENIX — The town of Gilbert is celebrating the season changing from summer to fall with its Harvest in the Heritage District.

This is the third-year of the downtown Gilbert event, which will kick off on Sept. 26 and come to a close on Nov. 2, according to the town’s press release.

The monthlong celebration will consist of artist activations as well as themed events.

What are some of the events for attendees at Harvest in the Heritage District?

One of the celebration’s events that has a tech twist is The Great Gilbert Gourd Hunt. Those interested in participating can sign up for a digital passport, which they will receive via text and email, to lead them to pumpkin vignettes around downtown.

There is a digital check-in required for each one. Once completed, participants can turn in their completed card or present it to staff at a Discover Gilbert Discovery Center for a pumpkin prize, while supplies last.

For those who aren’t as tech savvy, there are printed postcards available at Gilbert Town Hall, the discovery centers and HD South. Some retailers will have them as well.

Artist Ray Villafane will be hosting a pumpkin carving workshop at Water Tower Plaza from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 19.

There will also be an art installation featuring origami called the Fall Festivals in Folding Arts in the pocket park at Heritage Marketplace. The display is made up of suspended chandeliers that are supposed to be inspired by harvest celebration objects from around the world.

There is a planned free hands-on origami workshop at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 4.

The Heritage District will be transformed with fall decor and colorful autumn lighting providing Arizonans with an abundance of photo opportunities. The town encouraged attendees to use the #DiscoverGilbert tag on any posts.

In addition, throughout the month of October on Thursday nights from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. the Gilbert Parks and Recreation department will be putting on concerts at Water Tower Plaza. However, there will not be a performance on Oct. 30.
