1 dead, 1 injured after early morning collision in Phoenix

PHOENIX — A man died after an early morning collision in Phoenix on Thursday, authorities said.

Officers responded to the area of 31st and Southern avenues around 3:12 a.m. to find two injured men, the Phoenix Police Department announced on Friday.

First responders brought one of the men, 28-year-old Jose Gallegos, to a hospital for treatment, but he died of his injuries, police said.

The other wounded man was brought to a nearby hospital for treatment for injuries police described as not life-threatening.

Investigators believe the crash occurred after Gallegos was driving southbound on 31st Avenue.

Gallegos allegedly didn’t stop for a stop sign at Southern Avenue, which led to the collision, according to Phoenix police.

Impairment is not believed to have played a role in this fatal car crash.

No further details were released as this is an ongoing investigation.
