Small plane crashes after taking off from Phoenix-Goodyear Airport, killing pilot

PHOENIX – An investigation is underway after a small plane crashed in the West Valley this week, killing the pilot, authorities said.

The pilot, whose name was not released, was the only person aboard the Pitts S-1T aircraft when it went down, according to the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA).

The single-engine biplane was reported missing on Tuesday. Local authorities launched a search operation and located the wreckage on Wednesday.

The plane took off from Phoenix-Goodyear Airport and crashed in a rural area near Bullard Avenue Ocotillo Road, according to ABC15.

The FAA and National Transportation Safety Board are investigating the incident.

No other details about the small plane crash were immediately available.
