Apache Junction animal control facility set to reopen after major repairs

PHOENIX — The city of Apache Junction announced that its animal control facility will reopen to the public on Tuesday.

The announcement comes after the facility, located at 725 E. Baseline Ave., was temporarily relocated in June for major repair and construction work.

The purpose of the work was to address a persistent rodent problem that the city’s animal control had tried multiple times to resolve.

What services is the reopen Apache Junction animal control offering?

Apache Junction’s animal control will be offering modified services when it reopens, including animal adoptions, pet licensing, donation drop-off and a volunteer interest list.

Owner surrenders and stray animal drop-offs at the facility will be temporarily limited — except in emergencies — until Sept. 12.

The limitation is meant to allow animal control staff to transition back to daily operations in the facility as well as prioritize the health and safety of the animals in their care.

In addition, it will give the staff time to facilitate adoptions for the high number of dogs that were taken in during the relocation.

While surrenders and drop-offs are limited, community members can call animal control at 480-983-4405 to be added to a waiting list.
