Loop 202 Santan Freeway exit ramp closing for 2 months for construction project

PHOENIX – An East Valley exit ramp is closing for approximately two months as part of an ongoing freeway widening project.

The westbound Loop 202 Santan Freeway off-ramp at Price Road in Chandler is set to close at 11:30 p.m. Thursday and reopen in late September, according to the Arizona Department of Transportation.

Westbound Loop 202 motorists who normally exit at Price Road can detour via the Dobson Road exit or other alternate routes, ADOT said.

Why is East Valley exit ramp closing for 60 days?

The closure will give crews the chance to reconstruct the East Valley exit ramp as part of a $200 million Loop 202 improvement project.

Work on the project started in August 2024 and was expected to last 2.5 years.

The main objective is to widen an 8-mile stretch of the Loop 202 between the Loop 101 Price Freeway in Chandler and Val Vista Drive in Gilbert.

Two lanes in each direction are being added between Loop 101 and Gilbert Road, and one lane is being added each way between Gilbert Road and Val Vista Drive.

Ramps over the length of the project are closing for about 60 days at a time so they can be rebuilt to fit the wider freeway.

The ADOT project is funded in part through Proposition 400, the half-cent sales tax approved by Maricopa County voters in 2004.
