PHOENIX — A man with “ill intentions” and dressed as a security guard attempted to enter a Phoenix-area school Tuesday.
The man allegedly walked onto the campus of Mabel Padgett Elementary School near Indian School Road and the Loop 303 in Goodyear and asked to speak to the principal.
In a letter sent home to parents, Principal Gina DeCoste said the man seemed confused so she contacted the on-site police substation.
“We did have an officer on campus, the principal was able to alert the officer and the officer was able to intervene immediately,” Lisa Kutis with the Goodyear Police Department said.
The man did not talk to any students. DeCoste said students were not in danger at any time.
The man was escorted off the campus. Police questioned him several hours later and discovered he had “ill intentions.” The man was placed in a mental health facility for assessment.
The man was driving a black 1997 two-door Honda Civic. Anyone who sees the car on school grounds is asked to contact police or report it to the school.
