Peoria business owner living in US over 20 years detained at immigration meeting, faces deportation

A business owner deeply entrenched in the Peoria community was detained by federal immigration agents in May, leaving her business and family surrounded by uncertainty.

Kelly Yu is being held at the Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) Eloy Detention Center and her removal from the U.S. has been ordered despite having no criminal record, 12News first reported.

She was detained on May 28 at a monthly meeting with immigration officials, 12News reporter Sean Rice told KTAR News 92.3 FM’s Outspoken with Bruce and Gaydos on Wednesday.

Arizona Supreme Court rules school district not responsible for student’s off-campus injury

The Arizona Supreme Court ruled on Tuesday that an Arizona school district is not responsible for injuries that a student suffered while on his way to school, officials announced.

The court case involved the Phoenix School District No. 210 and 14-year-old Christopher “CJ” Lucero.

Lucero was seriously injured when he was hit by a car while jaywalking across 59th Avenue to reach Betty H. Fairfax High School.

Woman dead, sheriff’s deputy hospitalized after Queen Creek shooting

A woman died and a deputy with the Pinal County Sheriff’s Office (PCSO) was hospitalized after a Thursday night shooting in Queen Creek, authorities said.

The shooting began after a sergeant tried to stop a vehicle that failed to yield passing Gantzel Road and Pecan Creek Drive around 7:50 p.m., PCSO said.

Sheriff’s deputies then pursued the vehicle for six minutes down the road to North Gantzel and East Combs roads, where the vehicle in question crashed into a ditch.

Family of business owner detained by ICE say she was a pillar of the West Valley community

Kelly Yu removed her wedding ring moments before federal immigration agents detained her in May.

“I put it on my pinky,” her husband, Aldo Urquiza, told KTAR News 92.3 FM’s Outspoken with Bruce and Gaydos on Thursday.

Neither he nor Kelly’s daughter got to hug her goodbye. Just five minutes after the family stepped into what they thought was a routine immigration check, six agents closed in. They surrounded Kelly, cutting her off from her loved ones.

Arizona Attorney General sues to save almost 2 million people from losing health insurance

Arizona Attorney General Kris Mayes is suing the federal government over a new rule that could cause a major change to healthcare coverage for more than a million people.

Mayes joined 20 other states in suing the Trump Administration over a proposed change to Affordable Care Act regulations governing federal and state health insurance marketplaces.

According to the lawsuit, the change could result in about 1.8 million people nationwide losing their coverage.
