Roundabout opens near Crismon High School in Queen Creek

The city of Queen Creek announced the opening of a new roundabout at Crismon and Cloud roads, northwest of Crismon High School.

Town officials say the new infrastructure is in place to connect Cloud to Riggs roads via a brand new extension which was opened along with the roundabout.

“As a Council we understand that traffic continues to be a concern for our community, said Queen Creek mayor Julia Wheatley. “Our traffic engineering team evaluated the options to help improve traffic around our newest high school, and we are excited to open this new stretch of roadway and our first roundabout on a collector roadway ahead of the school year.”

What does ADOT say about Queen Creek roundabouts?

Officials at the Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT) said that roundabouts improve safety and reduce congestion.

For those unfamiliar with roundabouts, ADOT advises drivers to never merge when approaching the roundabout as drivers already in the route have the right of way.

While drivers entering the route need to wait for a gap in traffic, they aren’t required to stop but advised to slow down to a speed near 15 mph.

ADOT says that roundabouts can also result in a reduction in fuel use and pollution and reduces the likelihood of fatal crashes in the intersection by 90%.
