Man dies after shooting at Mesa Home Depot parking lot

A man died after getting shot Monday in the parking lot of a Mesa Home Depot.

PHOENIX – A man died after getting shot Monday in the parking lot of a Mesa Home Depot, authorities said.

The suspected shooter, 27-year-old Mario Mazon Montes, was arrested on one count of second-degree murder, according to the Mesa Police Department.

The suspect and victim were involved in an altercation before the shooting, which occurred around 11:30 a.m. outside the Home Depot in the Mesa Riverview shopping center, near Dobson Road and Rio Salado Parkway, police said.

What happened after shooting outside Mesa Home Depot?

The victim, 40-year-old Blake Hurlbert, died from his injuries after being taken to a hospital.

Officers who responded to the shooting took Mazon Montes into custody.

Authorities said it was an isolated incident that didn’t present a danger to the public.

The investigation is ongoing.
