Silver Alert canceled for Maricopa man whose car was last seen in Gilbert

PHOENIX – Authorities canceled a Silver Alert on Friday for a missing 77-year-old Maricopa man whose car was last seen in downtown Gilbert.

Around 2:30 p.m., Richard Bird was located with injuries near Bartlett Lake and was taken to a nearby hospital by the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Department.

Authorities learned he had been in a rollover crash.

Bird’s cellphone had been tracked to Casa Grande before it ran out of battery or was turned off, the Maricopa Police Department said.

Later, around 5 p.m. Wednesday, his 2016 Nissan Altima was seen near Gilbert Road and Cullumber Avenue in Gilbert’s Heritage District.

The car has an Arizona Cardinals specialty license plate with the number FB27K1.

Bird is 5 feet, 7 inches tall and weighs 164 pounds, with brown-gray hair and blue eyes, according to the Silver Alert.

He suffers from dementia and has medical conditions that require medication, police said.
