PHOENIX – Authorities released the identity of the man on Monday who was killed in a collision involving a Phoenix Police SUV last week.

Erik Yrigollen, 53, died from his injuries after he was taken to the hospital, according to the Phoenix Police Department.

The two-vehicle collision occurred around 7:20 p.m. at the intersection of Cave Creek Road and Pinnacle Peak Road.

The officer behind the wheel of a Tahoe was hospitalized with unspecified injuries that aren’t considered life-threatening.

According to the preliminary investigation, Yrigollen’s car was heading west on Pinnacle Peak Road and ran a red light at Cave Creek Road before colliding with the northbound police SUV.

“Additional details about the collision remain part of the ongoing investigation,” Sgt. Rob Scherer said in a media advisory Friday morning.

Photos from the scene showed significant damage to both vehicles.
