Police identify pedestrian fatally struck by truck in Phoenix

PHOENIX — Police on Friday released the identity of a pedestrian who was fatally struck by a truck earlier this week in Phoenix.

Christian Chevarillo, 34, died from injuries that were sustained while trying to cross Lower Buckeye Road on Wednesday, according to the Phoenix Police Department.

Details on accident that killed pedestrian

Around 9 p.m., police responded to a collision involving two pedestrians near 85th Avenue and Lower Buckeye Road, police said.

Upon arrival, officers found Chevarillo and another victim suffering from critical injuries. Chevarillo was taken to the hospital where he later died from his injuries.

The other man was hospitalized with serious but non-life-threatening injuries, according to authorities.

Detectives took over the investigation and said both men were trying to cross Lower Buckeye Road outside of any marked crosswalks when they were hit by the truck.

Investigators said the driver stayed at the scene and impairment was not a factor in this collision.
