Watch: 5 Arizona Democrats face off in 7th Congressional District primary debate

PHOENIX – The five Arizona Democrats looking to fill the late U.S. Rep. Raúl Grijalva’s congressional seat are facing off in a debate Tuesday.

The Arizona Citizens Clean Elections Commission is hosting the 7th Congressional District Democratic primary debate from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. in Tucson.

KTAR News is livestreaming the event on its YouTube channel (the video also is embedded above) and airing a playback at 7 p.m. on 92.3 FM and the station’s audio streams.

Steve Goldstein and Nohelani Graf are serving as co-moderators. Members of the public can submit potential questions through the Clean Elections website.

Who are the Arizona Democrats at Tuesday’s debate?

Adelita Grijalva, Daniel Hernandez, Deja Foxx, Jose Malvido Jr. and Patrick Harris Sr. are scheduled to participate.

Adelita Grijalva is trying to keep the CD7 seat in the family. Her father, who died on March 13 at age 77 from complications with his cancer treatment, served southern Arizona in the U.S. House for more than 20 years.

The Republican primary debate was held Monday with three candidates: Daniel Francis Butierez Sr., Jimmy Rodriguez and Jorge Rivas.

The primaries for the special election to complete Raúl Grijalva’s term, which runs through 2026, is set for July 15. The general election in the heavily Democratic district will be held Sept. 23.

A Clean Elections general election debate is scheduled for Aug. 26.
